Colour Sgt W ‘Jimmy’ James annotated his originals of these postcards of Winchelsea while C and D Company were based there in 1942. ‘CQMS Paradise’ is the New Inn, a popular haunt for All Ranks in 1942. The troops billets were all in requisitioned houses, as marked below. The buildings featured have hardly changed in the 60-odd years since these pictures were taken. |
