Viz, Melody Makers 16 DLI Band and 'Georgie'

The photograph above is reproduced from a postcard-sized copy captioned and sent out by Major Vizard to all members of the Old Comrades’ Association in the early 1990s. The same members of the dance band and their little local mascot ‘Georgie’ also appear in the image below, in which Cpl Thaxter is standing to the left of Viz. It’s strange, that’s there’s only four special uniform jackets for the six band members! According to the 1946 OCA Address book, Sgt R Thaxter’s home address was: Sheringham Ave, Southgate, London. Cpl L Neal hailed from Snaresbrook Drive, Stanmore Middlesex. Pte J Mordecai (spelled ‘Mordeca’ in the OCA book) was from Ralph Ave, Ryhope, Sunderland. Unfortunately, Albert, Credido (also spelled Credidio on a later photo caption) and McLeary are not listed in the 1946 OCA book.
