16 DLI Repatriated POWs taken Prisoner at Sedjenane, Tunisia

At least least six of the many 16 DLI soldiers taken POW at Sedjenane, Tunisia between 27/2/43 and 4/3/43 were so seriously wounded that they were repatriated back to the UK before the end of hostilities in 1945. This is what I know about these men thus far. Looking at the Pte Albert Pike interview on this page, it looks like these men would have progressed from the German Parachiute Engineers’ field hospital immediately behind the Sedjenane front to the French-run
hospital at Ferryville, before being sent over to Italy, to the POW Hospital PG 206, and thence, from there, circa 9/43, to Germany.

‘GRC’ in the listing below stands for ‘German Record Card’. These were compiled by the German authorities and are now held by the National Archives, though not all these German POW cards have survived. Any further biographical details on any of these men most welcome. Contact me at: thomas.tunney@btinternet.com
