This certificate for L/Cpl W Townsend, 4467191, 16 DLI Mortar Platoon, appeared for sale on Ebay a few years back, presumably at the same time as as his campaign medals, which are featured on this page.

The reverse of the certificate, featured here, is notable in that is is signed by Townsend’s Company Commander, Captain Harry Mynheer MM. Townsend was one of the very few men who served with the 16th DLI from the beginning in 1940 to the close of hostilities in 1945 and beyond. It’s very probable that he features, alongside Capt Mynheer,
