These photographs of Pte Aubrey Martin Davies (Army Number 14750242), of Stockton, Co Durham, were kindly provided by his son, Martin Davies. All of the photographs were annotated by Pte Davies on the reverse and these details have been copied for the captions here, cross-referenced against the names listed in the 1946 16th DLI Old Comrades’ Association Address Book.

The photograph above features, left to right, front row: Pte Aubrey M Davies, a local child, Bill Phillips, possibly Pte W Phillips of Harlesden, London. Roy Lewis, possibly Pte R C Lewis of Tooting, London.

Back row: Bill Lapper, Pte W Lapper, of Camberwell, London and Cpl C Gargate, later Lance Sergeant, of Crook, Co Durham.

The statue behind the men seems very distinctive. All suggestions to where and what it is most welcome!
