Dear Charlie,
Thank you old boy for your letter of a few days ago. It was great to hear that at last you had made it. When everything was so chaotic at S [Sedjenane] and so many of our boys were not to be seen I felt terribly about the lot of you. I only found 13 of the boys who were hurt and I hated to think that there must be others who needed help. I think Atkinson, who is also back in Blighty, did a solid job of work and I know Nye and Bell would, too. I hope you are more or less fit by now old boy, you don't say what was wrong. Perhaps you were weak after your long spell, or were you wounded?

We are certainly a changed crowd Charlie, you might recognise a few faces. I have given up trying to get to know all of them. Wakefield is still in the (O.R). Snowden (Police), Wright (MT). The QM's staff is little changed. Gravestock, Sparks and Parson [?] are still working for him. Little Larry Gaines is RQMS. George Gates and the RSM are both all right and carrying on. Jimmy Dwyer is still in the MT. Lew of course is in your old Company. Good is still there, too. I suppose John has written and mentioned those you knew. CSM Pearson of C Company is now Captain Pearson A Company with the MC up. Tony May is also at A.

Don't worry old fellow, all our letters get a little stereoscoped after a while away from home. It is grand to know that you are able to write.
Your mum has been great Charlie. She has written often and sent papers for us to read very frequently. Far more frequently than our letters in return deserved.
The news is great isn't it? Thank God! We had our second day of celebration today and I have just come away from the bonfire and Verey lights to write these few lines to you.
I hope one of these days we will meet again Charlie and be able to swap a few words with each other.
Give my kindest regards to mum and dad.
All the very best, always,
Yours, Pete.
