Captured Sedjenane, Tunisia, 1943. 16 DLI's last official CWGC casualty of WW2. Not listed on 16 DL1 Battalion History Roll of Honour, which was compiled before his death.

The item from the Middlesborough Evening Gazette of November 23rd 1943 below records Pte George Buttle’s transfer from Italy to Germany. Listed as a POW in Stalag 344 in early 1945, Pte Buttle was one of several ex-16th DLI men to die in German captivity.
