This is the end of service certificate of Pte J G Copeman (4464500) who was called up into the Battalion on its formation in Scotland in July 1940. As indicated in his record of service enlarged below from the reverse of the certificate, he was with the Battalion though all of its campaigns through to disbandment in early 1946. I obtained this item from medal collector Fred Bromilow, who spotted it in early 2009 at an postcard fair. It’s interesting to note that Pte Copeman’s Army number is only five digits away from my father’s wartime C Company Platoon mate Norman Cook, of Wheatley Hill (4464494), it’s thus possible that he may have also been a C Company man. To see both their Army Numbers in sequence with other known 16 DLI soldiers see this page. Pte Copeman’s address is listed in the 1946 Old Comrades’ Association Address Book as: 32 Havannah Terrace, Washington, Co Durham. Further details on him and his service most welcome.
